Standard/Full-size StrollersThese are versatile, all-purpose strollers suitable for everyday use. They usually come with padded seats, storage baskets, and adjustable features. While they offer comfort and durability, they can be bulky and less suitable for travel.

GB Pockit+ All City Travel Stroller

Lightweight StrollersAlso known as umbrella strollers, these are compact and lightweight, making them ideal for travel and quick errands. They are easy to fold and carry but may lack some features found in standard strollers, such as ample storage space or adjustable recline positions.

Baby Trend Jogger Stroller

Jogging StrollersDesigned for parents who want to maintain an active lifestyle, jogging strollers feature three rugged wheels for stability and shock absorption. They typically have a fixed front wheel for better maneuverability during runs and outdoor activities.

Convertible StrollersAlso known as 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 strollers, these versatile options can be configured in multiple ways to accommodate different ages and stages of your child’s growth. They often start as a pram or bassinet, then convert into a toddler seat or even a car seat carrier.

What Features Should the Best Travel Stroller Include?

Here are some must-have stroller features that my toddler and I need, and I’m sure you’ll appreciate them as well!

  • Compact Fold & Size – A compact travel stroller that folds without compromising on any of the other features mentioned below is a definite winner. Its compact fold and size make it very convenient to store anywhere, whether in an airport, theme park, restaurant, hotel room, taxi, train, or bus.
  • Lightweight – A lightweight stroller makes it easier to lift it into car trunks or overhead compartments on buses and planes while still holding your baby.
  • One-Handed fold – When traveling with a baby, a one-handed fold is a must because even if you are traveling with family, someone will be pushing luggages, and the other will be pushing the stroller with the baby and diaper bag. So when you are about to board the plane, you have to carry the diaper bag and baby while at the same time closing the stroller. A one-handed fold stroller will make this process easier.
  • Carry Strap – A carry strap is another must for me! When traveling, we can appreciate anything that is hands-free, so we can use our hands for other things, like rolling luggage in one hand and holding our baby or toddler in the other or anything else we may need while carrying the travel stroller over our shoulders.
  • Near-Flat Recline – In my opinion, a near-flat recline is a dream in any stroller with babies and toddlers. It makes it easy and comfortable for our kids to fall asleep while traveling or sightseeing, and we parents don’t have to stop what we are doing because our baby or toddler looks uncomfortable in the stroller.
  • Easy Maneuverability – Look for a travel stroller with swivel wheels or a smooth steering system, which will make it easier to navigate tight spaces and crowded areas. This is especially important when exploring tourist attractions or maneuvering busy streets and airports.
  • Storage Space – Not all compact and lightweight travel strollers include large storage space under the stroller like a full-size stroller, but many of the ones listed below sure come close! Storage is a must when traveling, at least to fit your diaper bag, but it will also be great if it fits any additional things you buy along the way or even to hold your jacket or sweater.
  • Large Sun Canopy – If a travel stroller doesn’t have a large sun canopy, I don’t want it! Especially on a hot summer day. Watching the sun roast your child’s face is terrible, and you don’t want to have to buy an attachable umbrella for the stroller because it’s an extra thing to carry.
  • Adjustable Foot Rest – This is great for when your child is in recline mode. You can adjust the footrest for a comfortable laydown. Adjustable footrests are also great for toddlers who don’t reach the stroller footrest yet.
  • Grows With Your Child- With so many stroller options out there, I recommend one that grows with your child from infancy to toddlerhood (ages 0-5). Yes, there are travel strollers with a weight limit of 50 pounds! I was surprised, too.
  • Travel-Friendly Accessories – Consider strollers that come with convenient accessories such as a travel bag, rain cover, mosquito net, cup holder, or snack tray. These accessories can enhance your travel experience and provide added protection for your child in different weather conditions or environments.

Now that you know what to look for, let’s finally get to know all the lightweight & compact travel strollers below, so you can decide on the Best Travel Stroller for your upcoming trip!

One thing to note is that it’s a two-hand fold instead of one, but it’s still easy to collapse and unfold. The stroller has average sun canopy coverage and doesn’t have a full recline. It comes in just black on Amazon, but on the Mountain Buggy website, they have four limited-edition colors.

UPPAbaby Minu V2 Stroller

The Uppababy Minu V2 is a high-quality, sturdy, and well-made compact travel stroller that weighs 16.9 lbs. Its weight limit is 50 lbs, which means even your older kids can sit and rest for a while after a long day of fun. Although heavier than some of the strollers on this list, it still has a one-hand-folded stroller that makes traveling with kids much easier. Additionally, it has a carry shoulder strap, which is quite convenient.

This stroller easily fits behind the driver’s seat, leaving enough room in the car trunk for other necessary things. The stroller’s comfortable ergonomic seats and adjustable leg rest are designed with your child’s comfort in mind, ensuring a pleasant journey. 8. Joolz Aer + ($450)

The Joolz Aer+ is a lightweight stroller that can easily be folded with one hand. It weighs 13.4 lbs. and has an extra-large canopy extension to protect your child from the sun and provide privacy. The stroller has excellent storage space for diaper bags and more. However, it requires buckling four buckles, and you have to unzip to recline like you do to extend the size of your luggage instead of pulling a strap on the back. It doesn’t recline flat, but it comes pretty close.

This stroller is less compact than the Yoyo2 and the GB Pockit+ All City but still compact enough to fit in a TSA bucket at airports and overhead compartments on planes. It comes with a storage bag and rain cover, a bonus I appreciate. It’s easy to push, and you can lock or unlock the front wheels for easy maneuverability. Benefits of Strollers that Fit in the Overhead Bin of Airplanes

Strollers that can be stored in the overhead bins of airplanes offer several benefits for families who are traveling:

  • Convenience –The most significant advantage of these strollers is the convenience of having them with you at all times during your journey. Instead of gate-checking or waiting for your stroller at baggage claim, you can simply fold it up and stow it in the overhead bin, allowing for quick and easy access when needed.
  • Efficiency- Traveling with a compact stroller that fits in the overhead bin eliminates the need to wait for checked baggage or navigate through crowded airports with a bulky stroller. This can help make the travel process more manageable and save valuable time, especially during layovers or tight connections.
  • Freedom of Movement-An overhead bin-compatible stroller allows you to move freely through the airport without being encumbered by a large stroller. This is especially beneficial when navigating security checkpoints, boarding gates, or narrow aisles on the plane.
  • Versatility- Overhead bin-compatible strollers are often designed to be lightweight and compact, making them versatile for use in various travel scenarios beyond air travel. Whether exploring city streets, visiting theme parks, or taking public transportation, these strollers offer flexibility and convenience for families.
  • Peace of Mind- Knowing that your stroller is safely stored in the overhead bin gives you peace of mind during your journey. You can rest assured that your stroller won’t get lost or damaged in transit, and you’ll have it readily available whenever you need it, whether upon arrival at your destination or during layovers.
  • Cost Savings- Budget-conscious travelers can save money by using strollers that fit in the overhead bin. By avoiding checked baggage fees for strollers, you can minimize additional expenses associated with checking bulky items or oversized luggage.

Last Thoughts

Navigating air travel with young children can be overwhelming, but the right travel stroller can make the experience much smoother. Whether you need a lightweight, compact, or adaptable stroller for your child’s growth from infancy to toddlerhood, there’s an ideal option here.
